Au début Hamilton résiste à Vettel entre les deux Mercedes. Sergio Perez (Force India) touche Lance Stroll (Williams) qui abandonne. Les pilotes, équipés de pneus intermédiaires, repassent par la voie des stands au troisième tour. Les Mercedes et les Red Bull restent en piste et au tour 4 Antonio Giovinazzi glisse et pulvérise sa Sauber sur la ligne d'arrivée. La voiture de sécurité permet un détour par les stands. Le Britannique ressort 1er et Vettel se retrouve cinquième.
